Albert Lamar holds a degree in music performance from Berklee College of Music as well as a master’s degree from Mannes College of Music. He studied privately with Matt Marvuglio, Randy Bowman, Julius Baker and Brad Garner, as well as small group lessons at Berklee with Phil Wilson, Jeff Stout, Andy McGee, Hal Grossman, and Mike Metheny. His performance career includes 16 years with the Mississippi Symphony as well as time with the Mississippi Opera, Mississippi Ballet and playing at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. Albert played with Deutsche Grammophone recording artist John Paul for 10 years as well as with Ray Charles’ orchestra 3 times. He has performed with a wide variety of artists including Bill Murphy jazz group (South American tour), Makoto Ozone, Rick Depofi, who helped to start Berklee in NYC and Julius Baker/Jean Pierre Rampal at Carnegie Hall in flute choir. Albert was a 2nd place winner at Charles Ives Music Festival. Additionally, he has performed and recorded with various local artists. Albert has taught private lessons to all ages for jazz and classical flute and saxophone, along with beginner piano. He previously taught at The Musical Suite (now ZFDM!)
